Contoversy

I went to public skate last Friday with my cousins and bro at the infamous Jus Jordan Arena in the town of Iroquois Falls, Ontario. It was a FREE public skate by the way and lasted for 1 1/2 hours. See there are benefits to living in the North! This ice surface is the best that I have ever skated on. It would be termed 'soft ice' as opposed to 'hard ice'. Sorry guys, no comparison to the APM Center ice. The stuff is flooded to perfection... Northerners take their hockey very seriously... and it pays for us lowly public skaters! Anyways, I remember complaining to someone once about the hardness of the ice, and they just laughed at me, because ice is ice right? No way! Compare skating at an outside rink to an indoor one... big difference right? Outdoor ice feels more brittle... ugg... give me the willies just thinking about it... unless the outdoor ice is covered in snow, then it doesn't feel as bad cause it's insulated a bit. I think softer ice is better because it chips less because it's not so brittle... I don't know... Andy, these are things you should have asked the Zamboni driver for me!!! That was the best hockey camp moment ever!!!
I digress... and everyone is glad... how long can someone talk about the hardness of ice... betcha Dan Frew could!!!
Anyway, things were a little quiet the last few days. In the process of making plans for the last part of my travels. I'm heading to Peterborough tomorrow for a conference, I'll hang out at my stomping grounds for a few days before heading to Ajax, where I'll stay with my aunt and uncle and I'll visit some family while I'm there, namely my brother and grandparents and cousins.
AND... Wednesday, I'll be heading to the Yorkdale Mall to hang out with some old friends from the North (minus Grae, who is part North since he spent many a summer with us!) who now live in the South. So pumped to see everyone again! Thanks for contacting everyone, Andy... can't wait to see you girl! Need to find directions to the Mall first...
Well, it has been good to visit my North and for some strange reason I'm not completly ready to leave yet... usually I'm just itching to get out of here after being here for 2 weeks, especially in the winter, but not this time. Maybe someday I'll find myself back here, but not yet, not yet.

A few days later...

Oops! I meant to post sooner than this, but things got a little busy!
As most of you know, my dad is a shop teacher at my old high school (also his old high school) so I went in on Wed to get his class to change my oil... excellent learning experience for them and free for me, since Dad bought the oil and filter for me! Yeah, I'm a spoiled brat! My car can barely start in this cold weather, poor girl, but she does like the new oil! It's so unreal cold here... -21 and holding for the afternoon... do you think school would be cancelled on the Island for that? Probably!!! Heard you guys got some more snow... has it all melted again?!
Strange... every I come home to visit I always contemplate moving back to the North. And this time I've been thinking about it more and more... no worries, won't be happening too soon! Although I have been given a job offer already! I went in to see my mom at work but she was at her other office so I visited with the girls there to kill sometime before going to a hair appointment (since my hair dresser, as well as Amanda's, has died, very sad) with my old hair dresser. Anyways, the woman that runs the preschool needs an ECE and the deadline for application is today. It's a neat place, even though it's not a Christian organization almost all the people that work there are Christians, so it would be a great place to work... it was also my old preschool, so there are many... well a few anyways, I was only 3!... fond memories from there!
I know I would be taking a major pay cut but it would be so fun working with those little guys and my French would improve so much since most of the kids there would only speak French. And then last night, I went to my brother's hockey game and got talking to a friend of my parents and he was telling me there's a house for sale in town for $5000!!! And on a double lot! And it's not a dump! Yeah, things are cheaper up here for sure! Tell Joe he should buy a place here... he'd have no mortage! Probably won't buy it... actually for sure won't buy it... but one can always dream!
Anyways, I think I heard mom come in, and she's had my car all morning and I need to go to town... not that there's much to do there but there is a gym and I need a run... I miss having the treadmill just upstairs!!!

2300 kms later...

I have finally made it home!!! Yes, I did leave Friday, no, I don't drive really slow!
I stayed in Montreal Friday night with some friends... they're my usual resting place when I travel to Ontario. Hit Graphite Bible Camp Sat afternoon... so sorry I missed you Hez!!! And Happy Birthday!!! Bancroft is one of my most favorite places on earth... maybe I'll move there next, Leanne said they were looking for more nurses at the hospital there! Left the 'Croft late this morning and made it home in record time, minus the 2 hour layover in New Liskeard where I stopped to see a few more friends... namely the Breadmores... another usual stop... luckily they were on their lunch break at work so we hung out in the McD's resturant in Wally-Mart for a little while! Then after getting clearer directions (tell your dad thanks Noel but Bob's directions were a little more clear!!!) to Isaiah and Isabelle's place I popped in there for a bit... do I ever love their kids! As soon as I mentioned Grandpa Cadillac, Thadeus fell in love! Got a few pics and a video to show ya'll at the airport... before you take off to Israel! Jealous!
God was good and the weather was great the whole way... a few flurries but nothing a Northern gal like myself can't handle! My poor car was a little stiff on Saturday morning but I think it was due to her over exhuberance the day before, esp. after sitting for two months... she has more than made up for lost time... and kilometers!
Well, I'm spent... got a cold on Saturday... might have been from the kid who sounded like he had bronchitis from the weekend! Gotta love camp! Time for bed... talk to ya'll tomorrow!

On the road again...

... just can't wait to get on the road again!
Well, Jonny did say that I would want to leave again after a couple of days and I was convinced that I wouldn't be taking off for a while but here I am... 2 weeks later heading to Ontari-ari-ario for a few weeks! Hopefully I'll be back before folks take off to Israel... without me! Now that would have been an awesome trip! Another time...
Pray that the weather on the road is as nice as the weather has been here all week! Wouldn't that be a ripper if it was storming tomorrow morning!!!
Still looking for more work... and as it happens I got an email from a cousin asking of I wanted to come and work as a camp nurse (my dream job!) at the camp he works at in Ontario. Anyone ever hear of Circle Square Ranch? It's a camp just North of Kingston and when I was a little girl they used to have a TV show or videos because I remember watching it on TV, and I always wanted to go there because they had horses!... Never did get to go and was jealous of my cousins becasue they went every summer!
Well, I gotta jet... the buzzer just went on the dryer and still have to get over to Sarah's to watch Lost! Busy, busy!
